My Story
My name is Reid McDonald and I’m the Owner of Up North Automation. I specialize in industrial automation and controls offering many services from consultation to full design, programming, fabrication, implementation, and troubleshooting. My passions are automation and my family.
My wife and I fulfilled one of our dreams by taking a leap of faith and buying a hobby farm; moving to Silver Creek, MN in 2017. I decided it would be a good time to propose just before we walked into the house for the first time, and we were married in our back yard the following year. We have 4 beautiful children that are 8, 5, 3, and 10 months old. My wife has a green thumb and loves growing flowers which she sells at local farmers markets. I enjoy beekeeping and remodeling the 100 year old farmhouse as hobbies. We also love our animals and have a Border Collie named Charlie who enjoys trying to keep all the free-range birds in line.
We took another leap of faith when I decided to leave my automation job in the cities and pursue my dream of having my own outfit, so Up North Automation was born. I have since completed many successful projects adding huge production increases and profits to several well known companies for extremely high profile clients. I have been so fortunate to have such great mentors and people around to grow me, and I thank them from the bottom of my heart.
This is just the beginning for Up North Automation. I am positive that many great things lay ahead and can’t wait to see where this path takes us… maybe you will be on it.
